THE WEALTH, LONG LIFE AND WISDOM GRAND PUJA PROGRAM -20-22 MARCH 2009 AT CHINESE ASSEMBLY HALL, KUALA LUMPUR

H.E. THE IX DRUKPA CHOEGON RINPOCHE, the present emanation of Shabdrung Choekyi Gonpo—one of the main lineage masters of the Drukpa Kagyu tradition—was born in 1966 in northern India and recognized, at the age of four, by HH the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa. In 1972, at the age of six, Rinpoche was enthroned at Khampagar Monastery in India. He then began his formal training and education, which included reading, writing, calligraphy, rituals, sand mandala, visualization, and meditation.

At age fourteen, Rinpoche received the complete teachings of the Drukpa Kagyu from Kyabje Khamtrul Rinpoche, who remained as his main teacher until he passed away in 1980. From the age of fourteen to twenty he continued his studies with Kyabje HH Dilgo Khyentse, who gave him teachings of all four schools of Tibetan Buddhism and, most importantly, the Dzogchen pointing-out instructions. On his advice Rinpoche completed numerous practices in retreat.

When he was nineteen Rinpoche began his studies in philosophy, which lasted for nine years, culminating at the age of twenty-eight when he received the degree of Khenpo (equivalent to a PhD). From age twenty to forty Rinpoche studied with another of his most important teachers, his third root guru, Adeu Rinpoche, who transmitted to him the entire Drukpa Kagyu cannon, along with many Nyingma teachings. His other main teachers were HH Je Khenpo of Bhutan and Kyabje HE Tulku Orgyen Rinpoche.

Rinpoche began his teaching career at age thirty in Taiwan and Malaysia. Since then he has almost completed the construction of the Dechen Choekhor Institute in the Kullu Valley while also renovating his original monastery in Central Tibet near Lhasa. Presently Rinpoche divides his time between practice, caring for his monasteries in India and Tibet, and teaching—which has taken him to Europe, North America, and South America, as well as Asia.

Minam Rinpoche was born on 3 March 1966 in the Ga-xiong village of the Nangchen district within the Qinghai province. Until 1980, Rinpoche was living as a herdsman, learning Tibetan and preliminary Buddhist theories on his own. In 1980, he was ordained at Ka-Trashi Monastery of the Drikung Kagyu tradition, and began to receive teachings, transmissions and ritual instructions of the Drikung Kagyu school. Later, Rinpoche entered a retreat to complete the preliminary practices as prescribed in the Mahamudra Ngondro.

At the sight of His Holiness The Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche, Minam Rinpoche (then named Konchog Thrinley) felt spontaneous devotion, as if meeting the Buddha in person. Thus, The Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche became Minam Rinpoche’s guru. Shortly after, Rinpoche attended the Drikung Kagyu Institute of Buddhist Studies and completed the five-year college education. With the guidance of The Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche, Minam Rinpoche entered the traditional three-year-three-month retreat, practicing the Mahamudra and the Six Yogas of Naropa. After completing the retreat, he was appointed by The Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche as the retreat master of the Ka-Trashi Monastery.

In 1987, when H.E. Adeu Rinpoche arrived in India, he discussed with H.E. Choegon Rinpoche about the search of the tulku of Nangchen Wamlung Monastery. A few years later, Choegon Rinpoche requested Adeu Rinpoche to take on the responsibility for the search. After the rituals performed by Adeu Rinpoche, it was confirmed that the retreat master of the Ka-Trashi Monastery, Konchog Thrinley, was indeed the reincarnation of previous Minam Rinpoche. The search report was presented to Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche and confirmed by him. Thus, in 1997, Konchog Thrinley was officially enthroned in the Drukpa Kargyud Monastery in Tashi Jong, and became the Minam Rinpoche of the Drukpa Kargyud Nangchen Wamlung Monastery.

In June 1997, when Minam Rinpoche returned to the Nangchen Wamlung Monastery in Qinghai, several auspicious signs prevailed with loud thunder and rainbows appearing in the clear blue sky. This further endorsed the reason why Minam Rinpoche, when he was still a child, often claimed that the toy house he built was the Nangchen Wamlung Monastery. Because the search was done cautiously according to the tradition and rituals, and was requested by Choegon Rinpoche, revered for his spiritual attainments, both the ordained and lay Sangha were able to have immediate devotion and respect for the newly discovered Tulku of the Nangchen Wamlung Monastery.

The restoration of the main shrine hall and construction on the retreat quaters were successfully completed in 1998. Minam Rinpoche offered finance education and accomodations to the fifteen young monks who had no permanent living quaters. Due to shortage of funds, the classes are conducted in makeshift rooms in the main shrine. The students have to stay in the already crowded rooms of the older lamas.

Wealth Attracting Lama Orgyen Norlha Puja
The principal deity Lama Orgyen Norlha is Guru Rinpoche manifesting as the divine God of Wealth surrounded by the assembly of Wealth Gods and Goddesses. Through cultivating the noble path in countless kalpas, the Wealth Deities have accumulated boundless merits and wisdom.

Due to its powerful blessings, this sacred sadhana bestow swift and strong blessings in the forms of good fortune, luck, longevity, enriching wealth, health and benefits those who are directly linked to it, when it is done with deep and strong faith and devotion.

Through the offering, one will be free from evil hindrances, gaining ease for both this life and future life, accomplishing both dharma and mundane activities/intentions.

One will also be liberated from the destruction of earth, water, fire and wind; free from the sufferings of poverty, hunger and thirst in their entire succession of lives. One will enjoy ease, brilliant complexion and auspiciousness. In brief, those who offer appropriately the Wealth Deities, the waves of limitless achievement of wealth will be perpetually flooding on them.

Through the blessing of Guru Vatsuratna (Orgyen Norlha), one is able to increase the energy of accumulating both samsaric and nirvanic wealth without obstacles. The virtuous results will also travel with one into the next life.

Despatching Of Serak
To ensure that obstacles-free wealth accumulation, Choegon Rinpoche will first perform a “Despatching of Serak” ceremony.

Serak is a type of mischievous spirit who consumes the potent essences of food and wealth. He is usually exorcized during rituals to promote wealth and prosperity. According to the sadhana, for this practice, an effigy of a poor old man holding an empty bag in the begging posture must be used; he is surrounded by many other similar effigies of hungry beggars, all of whom symbolize the “SERAK” effigies.

During this ceremony, Serak including hungry ghosts and evil spirits who constantly create obstacles, bad luck, poverty and disharmony will be invited to partake in this feast, blessed by Vajra Guru. This blessing is made up of holy and sacred mantras/prayers, are done with the motivation of great compassion and generosity. Thus, the offerings are made genuine for consumption.

Serak is despatched with the main intention of turning negative thoughts and actions into positive. Reason for Dispatching of Serak is to share our wealth, merit and compassionate thoughts with these beings with the intention that they too, will one day have the opportunity to practice the Dharma like us.

Results of a successful Despatching of Serak will pave an obstacle-free path for many practitioners and their chances of liberation are increased tenfold. Indeed a very positive and meritorious practice.

Lama Orgyen Treasure Jambhala Vase
These treasure vases are specially prepared according to Chokling Tersar’s unbroken lineage.

The blessings and accomplishment of this sacred ceremony can also be received through the object of a Treasure Jambhala Vase ( Tibetan: Yang Bhum). This Treasure Jambhala Vase, which can be kept in one’s home or office etc., with offerings and respect paid to it, is a source of accomplishments and wealth because it is emanation of the Deity of Wealth, Orgyen Norlha (Vasuratna) and will pacify all negativities and dispel black magic.

This vase also serves to enhance fengshui and wealth by magnetizing, attracting and revitalizing energies from earth, wind, water, fire and space elements into the vases.

It is especially very auspicious because it contains many holy Dharma medicines, mantras/prayers, Jambhala chakras, 5 precious metals, 8 auspicious chakras, 4 elements chakras, elephant chakras, precious relics, gemstone, gold and silver as well as Jambhala pills i.e. Tendue pills (combination of Black Pill and Rainbow Pill) collected from many great masters like Adeu Rinpoche, Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche, Samten Gyatso, H.H. 15th Karmapa, Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and H.H. Khamtrul Rinpoche.

The precious objects are sourced from holy places of Bodhgaya, Tso Pema, Kullu and other holy places visited by Guru Rinpoche. The special stones inside are the soul stone of Wealth Deities and right at the centre, the “life trunk”, is like Jambhala heart. The treasure Jambhala Vase is also precious because it is consecrated through the practice of the sadhana of Orgyen Norlha and dissolving Jambhala into the vase at the end of the auspicious ceremony.

Wisdom Accumulating Manjushri Puja
Manjushri is the Wisdom Buddha, the embodiment of the wisdom of all the Buddhas. By relying upon Manjushri, we will increase our wisdom. Wisdom is a virtuous, intelligent mind that understands its object unmistakenly as it always leads to correct actions and dispel deluded doubts. Wisdom is like an inner Teacher that we carry in our hearts and like a Protector that protects us from engaging in wrong actions and having to experience unpleasant results.

Manjushri is invoked especially for increasing intelligence by reciting his mantra, “Om Ah Ra Pa Ca na Dhih” many times.

If we practice this sadhana regularly and sincerely, we will definitely improve our Dharma wisdom, and eventually attain enlightenment.

Mantra: Om Ah Ra Pa Tsa Na Dhih

Red Chenrezig Jangchuk Puja
Avalokitesvara or Chenrezig is a Bodhisattva who embodies the compassion of all Buddhas.

Red Chenrezig Chang Chog Puja is performed for the benefit of all the deceased, karmic debtors, deceased baby and wandering spirits. The visualization practice of the Red Chenrezig, is widely known in Vajrayana tradition of Tibetan Buddhism.

The merits accumulated are transferred to the deceased for their purification and liberation. The lamp offering of all participants are needed to help the deceased in the intermediate state of Bardo and showing them the path to enlightenment. At the end of the prayer the paper tablets of the deceased will be burnt to purify their gross and subtle defilements thus enabling them to enter the path of liberation.

Please note that the transference of merits to the deceased or those deceased who had taken rebirth, it would certainly help to create favorable conditions and enhance their well-being in their existence. So seize this opportunity to participate in this special event!
King Gesar of Ling Lama Dance
The great Nyingma master, Mipham had many visions of King Gesar Dances and he taught many monasteries to perform this dance

King Gesar is an emanation of Guru Rinpoche Padmasambhava and the King Gesar Practice is very important in our current period and time of degeneration.

In Tantrayana, the dance of deities is not to be viewed as a mundane dance but it is in fact the movement of the deities. By seeing the dance it is almost as seeing King Gesar himself in human form.

The performance of the King Gesar Dance brings tremendous blessings and benefits. By just seeing this Mudra or Lama Dance, connection is made with King Gesar and thus Guru Rinpoche. The performers, as well as whoever joins in or participate, all equally benefit from the performance and receive blessings from King Gesar. Their lives are blessed and their obstacles removed.

Kutsap
Kutsap means representative statue. It is so called because they represent Guru Rinpoche and seeing these statues is equivalent to seeing Guru Rinpoche himself.

During the time of Guru Rinpoche he blessed and concealed statues making them representatives of him. There were very few of these statues and they were concealed in many different places.

These statues are to be revealed in the future by Treasure Revealers. Treasure Revealers are those who are spiritually connected to Guru Padmasambhava and who directly receive blessings from him. Some of these Revealers have revealed statues from different secret places.

Guru Rinpoche had only twenty five of such representative statues located in Tibet and the rest of the world. Some of these representative statues have been revealed while some have not been revealed yet.

One of these representative statue is in Dechen Choekhor, a very important monastery in the history of the Drukpa Kagyu lineage. It was founded in the 15th century and two of the highest masters in Drukpa Kagyu held their main seat at this monastery.

These revealed representative statues treasures are indeed extremely rare and this Kutsap from Choegon Rinpoche’s Dechen Choekhor Monastery is one of them. Dechen Choekhor Monastery has been holding many precious relics and precious statues for generations.

For this Grand Puja, His Eminence Choegon Rinpoche has, at the request of his students in Malaysia, agreed to invite this precious Kutsap treasure to Malaysia to bless this land and to bless its people as well as the participants of this Puja.

It is said that anyone who is connected to this statue through seeing, receiving blessings or either directly or indirectly pray to it, will eliminate the root of taking rebirth in the three lower realms. They will certainly go to the Copper Colored Mountain Pure Land of Guru Rinpoche in their next life where they will receive blessings from the three kayas of Guru Padmasambhava, that is, from Dharmakaya Amitabha, Sambhogakaya Avalokiteshvara, and Nirmanakaya Guru Padmasambhava.

As such, this Puja is a once in a lifetime opportunity to receive blessings from this Kutsap of Padmasambhava.

Standing Avalokiteshvara Relic of Tsangpa Gyare
This relic is that of Tsangpa Gyare in the image of Standing Avalokiteshvara. Relics manifest in many forms but relics in images of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas are extremely, extremely rare. This relic of Tsangpa Gyare is well authenticated and documented in Tibetan historical records.

The great Tsangpa Gyare is a 12th century master and the founder of the Drukpa Kagyu Lineage. He was an emanation of Avalokiteshvara and was renowned for his great compassion. During his lifetime, hundred of thousands of people followed his example of practicing loving kindness and meditation. Thousands attained enlightenment. He was known as one of the very few masters who had the most number of mahasiddha disciples.

He predicted after his parinirvana that his bones will turn into relics and these will benefit countless living beings for many generations to come.

After his passing away, a lot of relics were invited away by the dakinis to the heaven abodes, land of the nagas and other places leaving only a few in our world. Among these rare relics are those of the different forms of Avalokiteshvara.

If one wishes to pray to Tsangpa Gyare, there are twenty one different forms of Bodhisattvas but most of them are in the form of Avalokiteshvara.

Even in Tibet there are not many of Tsangpa Gyare’s relics left. Even then, most of them have now disappeared.

The relic of Tsangpa Gyare in the form of Avalokiteshvara is especially rare. There are only two known to exist. One belongs to the treasure of the Government of Bhutan and the other is with the Dechen Choekhor Monastery of Kyabje Choegon Rinpoche and Drukpa Yongzin Rinpoche.

We now have the opportunity to receive blessings from this relic. It will grace the main shrine during the Grand Puja conferring blessings to this land of Malaysia and its people.

Vajra Kilaya Phurba
The third relic that blesses this Grand Puja is the practice Phurba of Nub Sangye Yeshe who was probably the most powerful ever Tibetan tantric master.

Nub Sangye Yeshe is one of the main direct disciples of Guru Padmasambhava. He was a great practitioner of Yamantaka and was known for his powerful practice. Among his vajra brothers were Yeshe Choegyal, Vairotsana as well as many direct disciples of Guru Padmasambhava.

Again, through the compassion and kindness of Choegon Rinpoche, this Phurba will grace the main shrine giving us the opportunity to offer prostrations and the 7 branches prayer, receive blessings and make connection with this Phurba.
